there is more than one GPO in SBS2008 that deals with WSUS. if you look at the settings of each policy, you can see where it sets the regkeys to point to SBS for WSUS and sets the various options....

removing the role won't remove the GPOs at all. you can, after you remove the 3 GPOs, remove WSUS and other than the console not being happy, the server should still work.Kevin
